3DDeSI – Overcoming Disabilities and Enforce Social Inclusion via 3D Printing

About the project

Overcoming Disabilities and Enforce Social Inclusion via 3D printing (3DDesi) project, aims to identify and promote 3D printing technology as a connector between students of general education and special needs schools.

More precisely, the participant teachers aligned with the University of the Aegean and QmLab research team will develop common pedagogical tools for students of both types of schools. The concept of the project is based on the inclusion of students with disabilities, such as physical and/or mental impairments with the vision of creating an educational program that could run either in general schools or in special needs education.

The main objective is to develop activities, in which students with physical impairments could participate, and the other students will simulate their routine and try to implement the activities in the way that students with disabilities do. It aims to provide participating schools and other stakeholders with information and guidance on developing and/or implementing inclusive educational courses.

Through 3D printing technology, the learning process of students with disabilities can be effectively reinforced, resulting in wider social inclusion, participation, and acceptance.  The project is coordinated by the University of the Aegean and funded by the European Programme Erasmus+, through the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY).

The participants of the “3DDeSI” project are comprised of the research team of the Quantitative Methods Laboratory, and the school teachers and representatives of the “2nd Primary School of Chios”, the “ISA13 Istituto Comprensivo Sarzana” (Italy), the “School of Special Vocational Education and Training (EEEEK, Chios)” and the “Kirkkomännikkö School” (Finland).
